Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Municipality will soon launch a tender to private sector bidders to develop and operate a high-end beach club at the Corniche for residents and visitors of Abu Dhabi.
The beach club will offer a selection of new facilities for both the public and beach club members.
The club will also offer membership for guests of city centre hotels, which have no private beach facilities, to cater to their needs and provide entertainment opportunities. The Corniche beach club will be located at the Lagoons Beach near West Plaza, forming part of the city’s phase two Corniche expansion using a build-operate-transfer (BOT) arrangement.
“The project is designed to increase the range of quality and public services and facilities available for both residents and visitors,” said Rashid Bin Ali Al Omaira, investments and assets adviser for the General Manager’s Office at the municipality.
“The beach club will present an exciting infrastructure opportunity for the private sector and will continue to enhance the Corniche, which is already a popular attraction for many visitors and residents alike,” he added.
The proposed beach club will upgrade the existing community services through an array of middle to high-end food and beverage outlets that will be open to the public.
“Members will have access to the beach in addition to a range of activities including outdoor pools, health club, relaxation zone and water sports facilities. Parking facilities and underpass pedestrian access from the Corniche will also be available,” Al Omaira said.
Various beaches have been upgraded in Abu Dhabi to enhance local community services and offer their guests more options and a memorable experience.
Al Bateen Public Beach was renovated and opened to the public in December 2011 with an average of 30,000 to 32,000 residents visiting it each month.
The beach area is equipped with washrooms and changing rooms. It also houses some eating outlets.
Saadiyat Public Beach, which was opened in the first quarter of this year, has also welcomed the island’s residents as well as guests from the wider Abu Dhabi community to relax.
The 400-metre stretch of beach, which offers a range of facilities and activities, opens from 8am to 8pm every day with lifeguards on duty throughout the day to ensure visitors’ safety.
