Abu Dhabi: The municipality of Abu Dhabi called on companies operating in the Abu Dhabi Fruits and Vegetables market to meet the rising demand and continue imports without any delay or increase in price, so as to avoid burdening consumers.

Recently, the municipality embarked on a series of procedural measures including serving notices to importers who noticeably suspended their import activities; resulting in a remarkable hike in prices due to reduced quantities of basic foodstuffs on offer.

The municipality stressed that all types of vegetables and fruits are vital for consumers and should be provided without impacting the market movement in a way that lead to price rise.

The municipality said that the currently adopted regulatory procedures currently obliges all vendors to comply with the unified predetermined price list for all types of vegetables and fruits.

These measures have led to a higher inflow of local and imported produce resulting in falling prices.
