Abu Dhabi: A new division has been established at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department to help reach out-of-court settlements for various disputes, a senior official said on Saturday.
"Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Division of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department has expanded its operations in line with the 2008-2013 strategy that aims at promoting the concept of reconciliation as a crucial part to be adopted prior to opening any court case," said counsellor Al Bashri Al Shoarbaji, director of ADR.
He added ADR was established in keeping with the instructions of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
Al Shoarbaji said the division promotes forgiveness and friendliness in the community via a group of high- calibre legal and administrative professionals. "This division doesn't depend on legal perspectives only in solving disputes but also on social values to reach a solution without compromising on the rights of the parties in dispute," he said.
He added that Alternative Dispute Resolutions were initiated to minimise the litigation time and promote the culture of tolerance in the community.
The law binds parties to civil and personal status cases to seek amicable and reconciliation-based solutions to their disputes.
This alternative decreases the number of cases filed with courts and enhances the ability of courts to settle cases more efficiently.
The division functions systematically across its various sections with the personal status judges and family guidance specialists. It works with counselling houses including influential agents to provide consultancy to ensure stability amongst families, business sectors and labourers.
The division works on quantitative and qualitative analysis to enhance the alternative solutions.
ADR works on enhancing the educational programmes provided to its staff in accordance with promoting the importance of alternative solutions as the ideal channels to be adopted instead of courts.
In its preparations to enhance the alternative dispute resolution, Abu Dhabi Judicial Department worked at developing an advanced programme to assess the locations, performance and services of the ADR offices.
