Krysztof Radzikows triumphs in three-day competition of strength and power
Abu Dhabi: As the moment of announcing the winner of the World Strongest Man (WSM) approached, spectators were on their feet chanting for their favourites.
Thirty-year-old Krysztof Radzikowski of Poland stood out from 24 other contenders to become the 2012 World's Strongest Man in a three-day competition of strength and power.
Radzikowski scored 35 points to win the title and the top prize of $6,000 (Dh22,000).
The competition began on Sunday with 25 contenders from 22 countries vying for the title of the WSM and the trophy.
“I am very happy with the result. I trained hard and the competitors where very strong. I competed in various countries, but the competition in the UAE was a tough one," Radzikowski told Gulf News.
Laurence Shahahlaei was a close second, accumulating a total of 33 points.
Josh Thigpen from USA came third with 27 points.
The President of World Strongmen Federation was pleased with the overall result of the competition but did not seem surprised with the result
"This is the largest numbers of countries represented in the WSM contest. We were honoured by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan’s support for the event,” he told Gulf News.
