Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

They discussed challenges facing poor communities, including health conditions of new born babies and children in areas affected by epidemics, calamities and risks.

Shaikh Mohammad and Gates also touched on efforts to combat polio and the progress that has been made so far as well as the importance of continued support for these efforts and what should be done to eradicate the disease.  

During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of concerted efforts in cooperation with relevant international organizations and the need to launch humanitarian initiatives, to address incapacitating and lethal diseases and save innocent people from epidemics and diseases and health hazards.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of joint action on more charitable and humanitarian initiatives to be implemented in poor and disaster affected areas across the world.

In 2011, Shaikh Mohammad donated $50 million to buy vaccinations to save the lives of children in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
