Abu Dhabi: An expert panel of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has started surveying streets and residential areas to assess problems caused by subsidence, like ruptures and cracks on roads and buildings.
Subsidence is the motion of a surface as it shifts downward.
The panel comprising of consultants and technicians headed by the Director of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Division is conducting the survey to take immediate measures to rectify the soil subsidence occurring due to the nature of soil of those areas, and attend to the resulting ruptures and cracks in the buildings and roads, said a statement from the municipality.
The panel has started survey in Al Shamkha, Bani Yas, Al Bahia, Al Rahba, Al Samha, Al Wathba, Shawamekh Al Adlah, and Al Falah areas to rectify any problems caused by natural elements or others.
The Municipality tasked a specialised consultant company to carry out a comprehensive study and conduct geophysical surveys in all districts to inspect the soil density, identify the type of soil ingredients, and engineering solutions capable of solving the subsidence along with its impacts and associated risk on residential buildings and roads.
Accordingly, short term and long term plans will be made to address the problem. The Municipality also coordinates with Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) to carry out surveys and studies to assess the condition of residential units.
The Municipality called on the residents to report such problems in their areas on 993.
