Abu Dhabi: Motorists violating an Abu Dhabi Police guideline for car decoration and car parades during National Day celebrations will attract hefty penalties including confiscation of cars, a Dh1,000 fine and 12 black points.

The guidelines issued by the police on Sunday strictly prohibits any unauthorised car parades during the celebrations. The guidelines will be effective from November 27 to December 5, said a police press release.

Brigadier Eng Hussain Al Harithi, Director of Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said the police will immediately impound vehicles blocking traffic and damaging public property such as pavements and landscaping. These vehicles will be later moved to the main impound lots for a one-month period and vehicle owners shall pay a Dh1,000 fine and get 12 black points.

He urged motorists to comply with the police guidelines, which insist that the vehicle’s colour must remain unchanged and inappropriate and/or obscene words and phrases must not be pasted on the body of the car.

Vehicles should not carry more than the permitted number of people and passengers must not stick any part of their body out of the vehicle. Tinting or colouring windscreens is also banned, said Al Harithi, who warned motorists against stopping their vehicles in the middle of the road to spray paint others.

Urging motorists to commit to the ‘Spirit of the Union’ and traffic laws, Al Harithi asked the community to follow the instructions of the police during the parade. He called upon community members to celebrate this national event without recklessness which can cause accidents that mar the celebrations in addition to causing death and injuries.

The police will confront all road behaviour defying the ‘spirit of the Union’ during the National Day celebrations. The official said the police will intensively monitor all internal and external roads. The Air Wing Patrols will have their share in arresting violators and monitoring roads through cameras located everywhere to record and capture violations.

Motorists should not install any noise-making accessories or devices. They have to avoid the use of horns, particularly in residential areas.
