Abu Dhabi: Some 95 tons of food was stopped from entering the emirate during the second quarter of this year, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) announced recently.
The reasons for refusal included poor storage facilities, violation of transport rules and not conforming with UAE standards.
The authority said about 257 tons of food entered the emirate, 84.5 tons of which were dairy products and 59 tons were vegetables. An estimated 59 tons of water, juice, tea and coffee products also entered Abu Dhabi.
Mohammad Jalal Al Rayssi, director of the communication and community services at ADFCA said: “All products coming through the borders are subjected to a thorough inspection . That contribution forms a significant part of the plans promoted by the authority for food safety, while checking the conformity of these commodities with international standards.”
Al Rayssi said that any products that are not in line with the standards and regulations issued by ADFCA will either be returned to where they came from or disposed of.
