Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi will build five multi-storey car parks to cope with the growing population demands and traffic in heavily populated residential areas in the emirate.

The Executive Committee, an affiliate of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, approved the car park project during its meeting chaired by Shaikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, and member of the council.

The retractable car park buildings will be set up on Corniche Road, Khalifa Bin Zayed Road and the intersection of Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street-Al Nasr, as well as on the intersection of Hamdan Bin Mohammad Street-Al Najda.

The project is implemented in line with the council’s keenness to increase the number of car parks to meet the growing demands of the emirate’s population due to the construction and economic development.

The buildings will be set up on land designated for car parks within the Abu Dhabi Island, in an effort to increase the number of parking available for residents and visitors by the optimal use of the already existing car parks, which will eventually reflect positively on the city’s image.

The committee also approved the construction of a 2,029 square metre automated slaughterhouse in Al Shahama. The project will be implemented in two phases. Upon the completion of the first phase of the new abattoir, the current slaughterhouse will be converted into shops and outlets.

The committee also gave the go-ahead signal for building three new in Al Falah, Al Bahia and Al Foaa.
