Sharjah: More than a 100,000 fake auto spare parts valued at millions of dirhams were seized by Sharjah’s Department of Economic Development (Ded).

The counterfeit products, all of which were presented as products of global trademarks, were on their way to the market to be sold to consumers and were found during a routine inspection that aims to eliminate commercial fraud.

Sultan Abdullah Al Suwaidi, director of Ded, said that the department will not be lenient in protecting the emirate’s market from counterfeit auto parts and added that such acts aim to achieve profits at the expense of people’s safety. He said that fake parts can lead to accidents that can endanger the lives of families.

“This is the second time in which inspectors were able to seize such a large quantity of fake auto spare parts in just a couple of months,” Al Suwaidi said. “Earlier, inspectors seized a similar quantity of fake parts back in September. This indicates that the parties behind such operations are intent on harming members of society and trademark owners, which means that more efforts must be exerted to thwart their operations.”
