Youth eye private firms in UAE
The youth in the UAE are seeking career breaks in private firms, even if it means lower pay for a heavier workload

Dubai: Cushy government jobs are losing favour with the youth in the UAE who are seeking career breaks in private firms, even if it means lower pay for a heavier workload.
Emirati jobseekers at the recent Careers UAE fair in Dubai said greater job satisfaction, professional development and promotion opportunities are drawing them to private firms.
A top official said UAE nationals are increasingly eyeing the private sector, especially hospitality and banking sectors. "They are interested in the private sector due to the nature of work there," said Abdul Rahim Sultan, Employer Relations Manager at the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia).
"Some private sectors hold the economy. UAE nationals are needed there. They're more aware now and should be everywhere; this will help develop the overall economy." Dubai-based recruitment agency Careertunity said Emiratis are increasingly applying for private sector jobs, but added that the number of placements through them was a trade secret. "If you work in a private company, you can still help your country [UAE], because the firm is investing in you and hiring locally," said Hafidh Al Rajaby, 19, a school student.
"If I like a job, I wouldn't mind working longer hours. In a private company, the jobs are more exciting. The salaries can catch up," Harith Al Rajaby, 17, another school student, added.
