Workers seek redressal after sponsor fails to pay salaries for three months
Ten Arab labourers working for two companies have filed complaints with the Labour Department that they have not been paid their salaries for three months.
Ras Al Khaimah: Ten Arab labourers working for two companies have filed complaints with the Labour Department that they have not been paid their salaries for three months.
The two companies - a construction and transportation - are owned by the same Emirati sponsor.
The labourers claimed that they also paid the fees for processing their residence visas, and demanded that they be reimbursed.
The labourers had also complained about their living conditions and demanded that they be provided with decent accommodation. The current accommodation is unfit for living, they alleged.
Investigated
The labourers said that they approached the department and lodged the complaint after they lost all hope of amicably solving the issue. The labourers claimed that their sponsor refused to listen to them.
The labourers told the department officials that they did not have any cash to meet their daily expenses and have not sent money to their families back home in a long time.
The labourers said that their families have been calling them for money regularly but they failed to send them any money.
Saeed Askar, who heads the Labour Department said that the Labour Relations Section at the department received the complaint, investigated it and found that the complaint was genuine.
He said the sponsor would be summoned to settle the dispute amicably. If there is any hindrance the case would be referred to the labour court.
