Dubai: With the New Year just starting, many people are looking for new career opportunities. There will always be companies hiring additional employees this year, but for a more successful job search, the key is to know which sectors are really begging for new talent.
The latest Monster Employment Index Middle East has sifted through thousands of online job listings and identified the occupations that are in demand in the UAE right now.
If you are fresh out of college, planning to shift careers or have recently been laid off, it may be worth looking into the list of professions that are highly sought after.
According to the index, UAE companies are actively looking for professionals who have the qualifications or experience in purchase, logistics and supply chain. This occupation group registered a 43 per cent growth in demand in 2014 compared to a year ago.
Software, hardware and telecom professionals are also popular, as this group registered a 40 per cent growth.
Next on the list are marketing, communications, arts and creative professionals, registering a 33 per cent growth in December 2014 compared to a year ago.
However, finding a new job may be a challenge if you are a customer service, health care, human resources and office administration professional, as these occupations registered a decline of between -3 and -5 per cent.
Overall, hiring activity in the UAE remains positive, with the availability of online jobs in the country increasing by 13 per cent in December 2014.
“Among the GCC countries, the outlook for the UAE remains very positive and the country has projected a high level of employment in 2015,” said Sanjay Modi, managing director for India, Middle East, South East Asia and Hong Kong at Monster.com.
As to which sectors offer the most vacancies, it may be worth looking into the banking, financial services and insurance industry, as it posted the most growth in hiring, at 27 per cent.
It is also a good idea to search for postings in the information technology, telecom and internet service provider industry, which registered a 25 per cent growth in recruitment last December.
The production/manufacturing, automotive and ancillary industry is another top growth sector that you may want to focus your job search on. This sector posted a 22 per cent increase in hiring last December.
However, there was less recruitment activity noted in the advertising, market research, public relations, media and entertainment sector, as well as in the education and hospitality industries.
