Dubai: One of the main aims of the Ministry of Labour in the next two years is to enhance the reputation and the status of the country worldwide, Minister of Labour Saqr Gobash Saeed Gobash has said.

He was speaking at a workshop conducted on Thursday at the ministry's headquarters in Dubai. The workshop discussed the strategic plan of the Ministry of Labour for the next two years.

Gobash said the government's strategy is to enhance effective partnerships and dialogue between the ministry and its strategic partners.

Stability

"We are looking for a stable labour market in which we can protect the rights of the employers and the employees," said the minister of labour.

He said the mission of the ministry is to enhance the participation of the Emirati workforce in the labour market.

"We need to develop policies that will boost the number of Emiratis in the labour market in order to increase productivity."

Gobash said the ministry's plan is to create stability at the labour market, respecting human rights, being committed to work and being honest when implementing the rules.

"We need creativity, mutual respect with others and professionalism in our work," he said.

The workshop was attended by senior officials from various departments.

Dr Ahmad Bin Hazeem, Head of the Dubai Courts, said in the workshop that from his personal point of view the vision of the ministry is too long and could be specified in a few words.

He said the mission should be clear in telling why the Ministry of Labour exists.

He said the values of the strategic plan must be rearranged. "I believe that it should start with professionalism, respecting human rights and then mutual respect," he said.

Saeed Ali Khammas, Chairman of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, wondered if there would be special support for Emiratis working in the private sector.

Humaid Bin Deemas, Acting Director-General of the Ministry of Labour, said all suggestions are welcome.
