Dubai: More workers from the construction sector have stopped work in protest over non-payment of salaries from yesterday morning.

Around 100 labourers from a local construction company in Dubai's Al Aweer area complained that they had not received their salaries for five to six months. Additional grievances they had with their employer included poor living conditions.

Soon after the protest began, representatives from the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs in Dubai (PCLAD) went to the scene to resolve the situation.

Intervention

"We told the workers we would look into the situation ... and meet with officials from the company (tomorrow), to try to bring about an end to this situation," a PCLAD spokesperson told Gulf News.

The protest came to an end after PCLAD intervention, with representatives from the committee deciding to meet the company's management, to convey and discuss the complaints.
