- International Workers Day celebrations at Dubai Municipality’s workers’ accommodation in Muhaisnah 2 on Tuesday.
Home to 7,000 workers of the municipality, the Muhaisnah facility will serve as an open ground for all the residents of the labour accommodations in Dubai from May 1 to 31. Dubai Municipality has decided to lengthen the celebrations to a month as part of its ongoing efforts to provide workers with opportunities to strengthen their body, mind and spirit.
Workers can take advantage of basic health check-ups offered by the municipality's medical teams, live entertainment, and daily movie screenings.
Cultural performances
"We and all the workers of Dubai Municipality are part of the same department. We want to make them feel that we are all in one team. We want to express to them that we are with them on this day, that we are part of them, to help them and interact with them," Mohammad Abdul Karim Julfar, Assistant Director-General of Dubai Municipality, told Gulf News.
Cultural performances by a Bollywood live orchestra, a Punjabi dance troupe, to name a few, will be available every night. An inter-camp cricket tournament will also be held.
"The idea of having this event here is good because usually if we want to go anywhere, we have to walk for half an hour to get to the Metro, or take a bus which will only take us to the Gold Souq," Abd Samad, an employee in the municipality, said.
