Abu Dhabi: Luggage left near Electra Street made residents uneasy yesterday morning. The matter was reported to Abu Dhabi Police.

However, the items were found to be harmless and did not contain any harmful material, an Abu Dhabi Police spokesperson told Gulf News.

Police helicopters, patrols and other specialist teams were sent immediately to investigate. This resulted in the closure of Electra Street and Airport Road.

"I could hear the sirens blaring and some choppers as well," Medhat Z, a civil engineer who was at his home, opposite LLH Hospital, near the scene of the incident. "Later on, I saw that Electra Road was closed off and policemen were diverting the traffic towards Hamdan Street.

Street jammed

This caused Hamdan to become jammed, he said. "Fire engines and ambulances were on site as well and I think the area was cleared up by around 1pm or 2pm."
