Fujairah: Two boys drowned after falling into a 7-metre-deep pond that formed near their house following heavy rain here, Gulf News has learnt.

The accident took place on Sunday when the seven-year-old, A.M.S., slipped and fell into the pond as he played with other children in the Al Wahla area.

An Emirati youth, identified as S.M., 19, ran to help A.M.S. after hearing his scream.

The young S.M. jumped into the pond to rescue the boy but also drowned.

A man who saw the incident had called nearby residents for help, but was not able to rescue the boys on time. The two were later pronounced dead on arrival at Kalba hospital. They will be buried on Monday in Al Wahla cemetery after Dhuhr prayers.

Major Dr Saeed Al Hassani, Director of Fujairah media and public relations department of Fujairah Police, said they received the emergency call around 5:30pm.

Following the incident, police in Fujairah urged parents to exercise caution and watch over their children carefully — particularly when they are playing near wadis or ponds.
