Al Ain: An Omani national (39), his 14-year-old son and four-year-old daughter died of suffocation after a fire at their house on Friday morning.

The tragic accident is believed to have started when the fridge’s electrical wires touched.

The wife of the family (a UAE national) three of the couple’s other children and the maid were also injured.

The two older children that were injured are 10 and six years old, while the baby is four months old.

The wife, her children and the maid are in hospital where their injuries have been described as moderate.

A neighbour and his private chauffer who intervened when the fire broke to save the family and evacuate the wife and children, sustained serious injuries and both men are currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Tuwam and Al Ain government hospitals.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Muhammad Al Shamsi, the director of the city’s police station said that a report came to the Al Ain police department’s operation room at 04:47 on Friday.

The civil defence team rushed to the location along with rescue, ambulance and police teams.

The fire department succeeded in controlling the fire and the injured were rushed to hospital.

Al Shamsi said the investigations are still underway for a full explanation of the cause and details of the fire.
