Sharjah:  Police are continuing investigation into the cause of a deadly fire that ripped through a villa in the Al Madam area of Sharjah on Friday.

Two people died and another 12 were injured in the blaze.

An Emirati father and his eldest son died in the blaze and the remaining family members, which included children and an infant, were injured when their villa went up in flames at about 2am, an official at Sharjah Civil Defence told Gulf News.

“The fire broke out in their villa while the family was in deep sleep,” the official
said.

Neighbours help

Neighbours were able to rescue the children and two women from the burning villa before the Civil Defence rescue team arrived. Neighbours did what they could to douse the blaze.

Upon arrival at the scene, Civil Defence officials managed to bring the fire under control within about five minutes.  An official at Al Dhaid hospital told Gulf News that two of the victims who were hospitalised were reported to be in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Treated

Other family members who escaped suffered from smoke inhalation and were treated in hospital. The victims’ remains were handed over to their relatives for burial on Friday.

The victims are identified as Kh. N., 53, and H. Kh., 20.
