Sharjah: Seven workers have been seriously injured after a concrete wall collapsed  on them in a building under construction in Sharjah on Sunday morning, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News.

Construction company staff at the site were summoned by police for questioning.

Sharjah Police detained a number of officials of the operating company following the incident, which took place at about 8.30am on Sunday in Al Nahda area of Sharjah.

The police operation room received a call saying that seven workers were seriously injured after concrete wall collapsed on them. Early information suggested that the accident had involved a crane.

Paramedics moved moved the injured workers to Al Kuwaiti Hospital and Al Qassimi Hospital.

An official at Al Kuwaiti hospital told Gulf News that the hospital received five workers from Indian nationality and their ages ranged from 22 to 52. They were treatment and some were discharged.

Meanwhile, two Indian who received serious injuries and identified S.N., 40, and M.J., 36 have been admitted to the ICU of Al Qassimi hospital for their serious condition, an official at Al Qassimi hospital told Gulf News.

Police are urging the engineers and construction workers to ensure that all safety procedures are in place at their work sites in order to avoid similar accidents.
