Abu Dhabi: The body of an Indian man who died following a crash in the capital has been repatriated and buried in his hometown, relatives and friends told Gulf News yesterday.

Abdul Kareem Haji, 55, died of injuries he received in the crash and was buried on Saturday morning in Kerala, said Noushad, his son law.

As Gulf News reported on March 28, his colleague Kalathil Kunchi Moideen, 41, died in the crash on March 26, which had shattered both of their dreams of a reunion with their families.

Loneliness

The tragedy occurred while they were making arrangements to bring their families to Abu Dhabi when their children's school vacation began back home.

On the eve of that fateful day the two friends were cleaning and arranging furniture in the flat which they had taken for both their families.

"The whole night, they were sharing the excitement of meeting their children next week," Chamkath Saleem, a colleague and friend said.

The friends had taken a two-bedroom flat for their families to share.

Haji and Moideen, from the Malappuram District in Kerala worked for a government organisation in the capital.

Haji was declared brain-dead by doctors although his heart was beating, according to his son-in-law.

"His heartbeat slowed down by Thursday afternoon and he had his last breath thereafter," Noushad said.

Saleem, who worked with the men for more than a decade, said he was unable to cope with the loneliness.

"They were staying in the rooms close to mine. I never expected that they would leave me like this."

The police said a truck crashed into their car at a signal.
