Ras Al Khaimah: A team of rescuers walked a few kilometres yesterday to save an Asian adventurer who took the challenge of jumping and swimming in the dangerous Wadi Al Munaei.

The adventurer sustained moderate injuries.

A team of 10 rescuers and paramedics were involved in the rescue operation to save the 33-year-old Asian who had come from another emirate particularly to swim in the Wadi Al Munaei, which is considered the most dangerous in the country.

First Lieutenant Tareq Ahmad Al Sharhan, who heads the Rescue Section at the RAK Police said, the man slipped into the wadi and had difficulty coping with the water.

The victim then called up his family to seek help.

He added the victim's family reported the case to the Operation Room of the RAK Police which immediately despatched a rescue team.

Al Sharhan said the rescuers had to walk a few kilometres while carrying their rescue equipment as vehicles could not pass through the rough terrain.

The victim was totally exhausted and could not move when rescuers reached him. He was given first aid on the scene and was later taken in an ambulance to Saqr Hospital for treatment.

Dangerous

Al Sharhan said despite their calls to the public warning them to stay away from the wadis, there are still those who put their lives at risk. He said the wadis are extremely dangerous and strong winds in such places make adventurers lose control and drown.

He said wadis and dams are still considered dangerous and the public should avoid these areas.
