Dubai: The police’s Air Wing recently came to the rescue of a French family of six whose vehicle got stuck in Al Faqaa area of Sharjah.

Brigadier pilot Abdullah Humaid Abdullah Al Shehi of the Air Wing at the Dubai Police command and control centre, told Gulf News on Wednesday the air wing was recently involved in two operations involving people on off-road trips.

The first rescue operation took place when the Air Wing received a call from Sharjah Police about the stranded family.

A team from the Air Wing searched the area until they found the family far from the main road. They had a cellphone but no communication device with a map on which may have helped them in such a situation, he said.

In another rescue operation Brigadier Al Shehi said that the air wing received another call that a number of people were missing in the desert in Al Mulaiha area.

A search was undertaken until they were found.

Brigadier Al Shehi urged the public to be well equipped with suitable communication devices when they go on trips to the desert in order to avoid such situations.

He said that Sharjah Police communicated with the command and control centre at Dubai Police to report the two incidents.
