Police said a 37-year-old Emirati man died when a metal ball fell on his head while waiting for his children who were playing in the games zone.
The police are still investigating the incident.
In a statement issued by Global Village on Friday afternoon, senior park officials called the death a “ sad accident” and said that it was decided to stop “all the entertainment shows at the park today.”
Global Village said that its senior administrators, Dubai Police and municipal safety inspectors were on scene first thing on Friday morning to “carry out the necessary investigation of this tragic incident.”
Amusement rides closed
Later, authorities closed all the amusement rides at the Global Village until further notice.
The popular theme park said it was extending “its deepest condolences to the family of the man who has tragically died following the accident late on the evening of Thursday.”
It assured the public the park operates using the highest standards and inspections.
“The park’s management assures to provide full support in the investigations of the cause of the accident, noting that Global Village always cooperates with official authorities and government bodies to implement the standards and laws in all areas.”
