Dubai: Five warehouses were gutted by a massive fire that broke out yesterday in the Ras Al Khor Industrial Area. However, no one was injured.

Dubai Civil Defence personnel managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to seven other warehouses attached to the gutted structures.

Black smoke

Thick black smoke hung in the area with many civil defence units from six stations surrounding the area to bring the fire under control, said Major Ali Al Mutawa, Director of Dubai Civil Defence Operations Room.

The fire was reported to the Civil Defence at 11.35am. The units managed to bring the fire under control by 2pm, he said.

The warehouse stored plastics, perfumes, cosmetics and home appliances, he said.

Companies close to the area were requested to evacuate and many workers were seen standing outside their companies as the smoke grew steadily thicker.
