Dubai: A motorist died after his body was cut in half in a traffic accident on Emirates Road near the Dubai-Sharjah border on Friday morning, Gulf News has learnt.

The Egyptian man, believed to be in his 30s, was driving with his wife and child along Emirates Road when he stopped to fix a flat tyre by parking his car on the left side of the road near the last bridge in Dubai heading towards Sharjah, an official from the General Department of Traffic, Dubai Police, told Gulf News.

The victim reportedly was trying to change the tyres without checking the road when a four-wheel-drive vehicle on the fast lane hit him at around 11:30am. The official said the man died on the spot in front of his wife and daughter, his body cut in half.

Police have taken into custody the driver of the four-wheel drive vehicle for investigation.

The police official reminded motorists to take extra caution while on the road, especially during emergencies.

“If you encounter any emergencies on the road, try to stay away from the yellow area. Go to the right-hand side of the road, put an emergency warning triangle or switch on your hazard lights to signal to other road users that you have an emergency. And also look at the road all the time,” the official said.
