Ras Al Khaimah: Ras Al Khaimah police said they successfully rescued an Emirati man who was lost in the desert on Saturday.

Police said the Emirati driver, 52, identified as R.Kh.S., was driving on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road after a holiday when he lost his way and veered off the road.

Captain Tariq Al Sharhan, acting director of the Rescue and Ambulance Unit of RAK police, said they received a call reporting a man who lost his way home and whose vehicle was stuck in a sand dune in the middle of the desert.

Police dispatched an ambulance, two patrol vehicles and a helicopter to search for the man’s location. Capt Al Sharhan said it took a while for police to locate the man as the first information on his whereabouts they had received was false.

An Asian man working in a farm close by called police to guide them to the man’s correct location.

Capt Al Sharhan said the Emirati suffered from exhaustion and fatigue. He was transferred to a hospital after receiving necessary medical help.

Capt Al Sharhan urged residents to report to authorities about their trips should they get lost. “Inform us before you leave for any trip so that we can reach you in case you get lost. Please also take necessary safety precautions when going for long trips.”

“RAK police are working round the clock in the service of the people,” he added.
