Dubai: One man sustained very serious injures in a horrific crash on Thursday on Shaikh Zayed Road near Al Barsha, police said.

Minibus carrying 13 people hit barrier after tyre exploded

Lt. Colonel Omar Moosa Hassan Ashor from the Dubai Police Traffic Department said the accident happened at 4.30am when a mini bus’s tyre exploded causing it to skid and hit the roadside barrier.
“There were 13 people on board the mini bus in addition to the driver,” he said.
He said one of the passengers sustained serious injuries and was transferred to Rashid hospital while the others sustained minor injuries.
Lt. Colonel Ashor added that the initial investigation suggested it happened because of the exploded tyre.
“We are waiting for the police operation workshop to release their report on the accident to find out if the tyre is old one or not and why it exploded,” he said.
He said the accident cause a massive traffic jam on Shaikh Zayed Road for more than three hours.
“We were able to clear the road at around 7am,” he said.
