Ras Al Kkaimah: An Emirati man was shot dead during celebrations at a Friday afternoon wedding reception, police said.
Authorities confirmed to Gulf News on Friday that early accounts of the shooting suggest that one of the guests among the jubilant crowd allegedly fired a gun into the air in celebration.
But in a tragic twist, two bullets meant to be fired high into the air accidentally hit a bystander in the neck and chest.
Police quickly arrived at the reception in the Wadi Al Qou’a area of Ras Al Khaimah.
The victim was identified as M.H.A.H. and was in his 30s. The man was rushed to Saqr hospital around 2pm where he pronounced dead shortly after being admitted.
The deceased was moved to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.
Police personnel, CID, and experts from the police forensic laboratory went to the site of the wedding to investigate the incident, which police said they are treating as an accident.
Ras Al Khaimah Police, meanwhile, arrested the shooter and the owner of the weapon that was fired.
The investigation continues.
