Sharjah: An Indonesian housemaid has died and another fighting for life at a hospital in Sharjah, as they burnt coal and inhaled poisonous smoke while sleeping at their room in sponsor’s villa.
The two Indonesian women inhaled carbon monoxide that emanated from the burning coal, which gave them suffocation, doctors said.
An official at Sharjah police told Gulf News that an Emiratii informed them about the incident on Friday morning that his two housemaids were lying unconscious inside their room.
The paramedics found one of them had already died due to inhalation of the coal fumes, while the other housemaid was breathing with difficulties.
The body of dead housemaid, identified A.A., 30, was taken to Kuwaiti Hospital and then to the Forensics laboratory for autopsy.
The housemaids had burnt the coal in a metal bowl in their room to keep warm at night.
The second housemaid is undergoing treatment at the Al Qasimi Hospital. She was diagnosed with lungs infection and breathing difficulties, an official at Al Qassimi hospital told Gulf News.
