Dubai: A husband and his wife died, while their son and his uncle were injured, after their car crashed into a street-cleaning vehicle on Shaikh Zayed Road yesterday afternoon.

According to Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution chief Salah Bu Farousha, the 30-year-old Asian driver was killed on the spot and his wife, who was airlifted to Rashid Hospital, died an hour later due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The brother of the driver also suffered critical injuries and is fighting for his life, Bu Farousha said, adding that the couple's one-and-a-half-year-old son sustained moderate injuries.

The accident happened in the southbound lanes of Shaikh Zayed Road near the Emarat petrol station.

Bu Farousha said he had given instructions to release the bodies to the rest of the family.

In another accident, an Arab driver sustained serious injuries when he lost control of his vehicle and hit the median on Al Khail Road. Bu Farousha told Gulf News that Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution has launched investigations into both incidents and had asked the traffic police to update them with technical reports on the incidents.
