Dubai: Dubai Civil Defence organised a two-week-long campaign at the Dubai Mall to educated people especially children about the use of fire extinguishers and the prevention of fire hazards.
The campaign aims to raise awareness on the importance of manual fire extinguishers in fighting small fires and restricting the spread of fire. The goal is to instruct people on how to use these manual extinguishers, when they should be used and general tips about fire and the necessary actions to be taken during various fire emergencies,” said Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Acting Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Civil Defence.
He said it is important for everyone to know the use of fire extinguishers to avert fire hazards such as leakage of gas cylinders, electricity short circuits and fires in the kitchen. “Presence of mind and timely action can not only save lives but also cause collateral damage to the properties,” he said.
Many informational poster and booklets on fire safety are given out to visitors as well as fridge magnets that reminds one to call 997 if fire occurs. The Fire Extinguisher Awareness campaign runs daily from August 5 until August 22, from 8.00 pm to 12 midnight.
