- Both the driver and the fellow passenger were rushed to the hospital, but the driver of the car succumbed to his injures at the hospital, said Major Bin Aran.
Accident investigators are attributing the fatal accident to speeding, the police said.
The driver, reported to be in his 40s, was speeding on Al Ittihad Road, according to the police report, when his vehicle slammed into a concrete barrier and the car rolled several times before landing on a sandy roadside.
Major Saeed Obaid Bin Aran, director of Traffic and Patrols Department at Umm Al Quwain Police, said the car was travelling at high speed but did not give figures on how fast the car was travelling.
The crash happened at around 3am. No damage estimate on the vehicle is available, but Major Bin Aran said the vehicle was badly damaged.
Both men in the vehicle were rushed to hospital where the driver later succumbed to his injuries.
The latest highway death prompted police on Friday to remind motorists of the inherent dangers of lead-footed driving practices that often lead to fatal consequences. “We again appeal to motorists to adhere to speed limits and ensure their seatbelts are fastened for their safety and for the safety of other road users,” Major Bin Aran said.
