Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, offered on Saturday his condolences to the Al Numairy family on the death of Dr Ali Al Numairy, a prominent Emirati plastic surgeon.
Shaikh Mohammad, who was accompanied by Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, visited the residence of the family of the deceased in Dubai to express his sympathy to the members of the family. The family of the deceased thanked Shaikh Mohammad for his condolences.
Earlier, the body of the UAE’s first plastic surgeon, who was killed in a road accident late on Thursday, was buried at the Bur Dubai cemetery on Friday.
Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, director of the General Directorate of Traffic, Dubai Police, said renowned Emirati surgeon, Dr Ali Al Numairy, 57, had just left work in Deira when the tragedy struck. He was riding his motorcycle on the way to the Floating Bridge when an Indian motorist reportedly jumped the red signal and hit him.
The plastic surgeon was thrown off his motorcycle. He landed on his head resulting in his immediate death.
Major General Al Zafein explained that Dr Al Numairy was on his lane, riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Dr Al Numairy was a well- known plastic surgery consultant and vice-president of the Union of Arab Doctors. He was the World Vice President of the International College of Surgeons (ICS) and President of the ICS UAE Section. In 1996, he established the Gulf Speciality Hospital, Dubai’s first specialised hospital for plastic surgery and laser.
Dr Al Numairy was also the former head of the burns section at Rashid Hospital and he was one of the most prominent founders of the Emirati biker group called UAE Tigers.
In connection with his death, Dubai Police held a number of meetings with Roads and Transport Authority officials regarding traffic intersections and signal lights, which cause confusion to motorists especially those installed on the left side of the road.
Dubai Police and RTA are expected to make some amendments to traffic design in the coming days.
