The number of fatal accidents on UAE roads fell by 10.7 per cent following implementation of new traffic law

Abu Dhabi: Road deaths fell by 10.7 per cent nationwide from March 2008 to March 2010 thanks to the revised federal traffic law.
Brigadier Gaith Al Za’abi, Director General of the Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior said run-over, collision and turn-over accidents dropped by 16.8, 6.4 and 3.6 per cent respectively.
He attributed the decline in traffic accidents to the enforcement of the refined traffic law, while he attributed the rise in traffic offences to the wide deployment of traffic patrols and radars on roads.
He announced that compliant motorists will be rewarded while offenders will face the full force of the law.
“The law is a good step forward in the Ministry’s effort to standardise procedures, violations and penalties,” he added.
A group of UAE and expatriate motorists have praised the Ministry’s efforts to control traffic mishaps as a practical step and a valuable instrument for preserving safety of people on roads.
