Dubai: An accident after the sixth interchange near Jebel Ali brought early morning traffic heading towards Abu Dhabi to a crawl, commuters said.

The tailback delayed traffic coming out of Jumeirah Beach Residence and cars were seen stuck on the bridge leading to the Shaikh Zayed Road.

Motorists coming from The Greens and Emaar Business Park were also caught in the snarl.

Dubai Police tweeted that the accident has occurred on Shaikh Zayed Road and advised commuters to be cautious and take an alternative route.

The accident caused huge delays and a bumper-to-bumper tailback that extended from Ibn Batuta mall interchange to the Mall of the Emirates.

Jo, from Dubai, tweeted the traffic was made worse by impatient drivers who took the hard shoulder to get in front of the line of cars. “Absolutely irritating. Just wish the police could have caught them,” the commuter said. 

Another commuter, Moheeb Asfari, Tweeted that the traffic is “a disaster” He said it usually takes him 40 minutes to reach his workplace. The accident delayed the commute  to more than an hour and 40 minutes, he said.

There was no immediate report of any casualties from the accident.
