Abu Dhabi: The Red Crescent Authority campaign launched on June 29 has collected so far Dh 18.6m to provide humanitarian support for Yemen.
“We received a call last night (Saturday June 30) at 11: 20 from a hospital called “Seventy” in Sana’a, Yemen’s capital, urgently requesting baby milk. We immediately bought the needed milk and delivered it,” Ahmad Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Board of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), told Gulf News.
“We also distributed food and urgent needs to 50 families in “Al Seeniya” district in the Capital that is one of the poorest areas in need for urgent assistance. Today we will distribute food to over 500 more families,” he added.
The RCA campaign aims at providing aid and food supplies to the neighboring nation that is struck by near catastrophic food shortages throughout the country.
The campaign was launched in cooperation with the Khalifa Bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation and the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Foundation.
Earlier this month, President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan approved Dh500 million in aid to Yemen. This and other donations raised will provide basic foods, medical supplies directly to the hungry and needy people of Yemen. Distribution centers are being set in place.
