Dubai: The school bus driver was reportedly at fault in an incident in which a boy with special needs went missing for a few hours on Monday afternoon, Dubai Police said.

The 10-year-old was found unharmed by police a few hours after he was reported missing and was promptly returned to his parents.

"The child was mistakenly dropped off by the driver," Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Head of the Criminal Investigations General Department of Dubai Police, said.

The boy was found in Oud Muteena and was brought to Al Ghusais Police Station, Al Mansouri said.

"When we asked the child about his parents he was not able to answer well. But based on the child's school uniform the police were able to reach the parents after contacting the school," he said.

A representative from the school and his parents came to the police station, he added.

Slipped out

The boy identified as G. attends the Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs in Al Barsha.

The school said G. may have slipped out of the bus when it stopped to drop off another rider.

The bus had a male driver and a female conductor.

No one was aware that the boy was not on board until the bus reached his stop, Isphana Al Khatib, director of Al Noor, said earlier. Al Khatib said that the school is looking the incident and that an internal investigation will be conducted.
