Sharjah: The family of a five-year-old boy, who fell through a hotel window in Sharjah and died on Friday, have contacted their embassy yesterday and are waiting for the victim's body to be released before travelling home.

The family, from Kazakhstan, were spending their holiday at the Radisson Blu Resort, located along Sharjah Corniche Street in Sharjah when the accident happened.

According to Sharjah Police, the boy was left unsupervised and fell from the fourth floor window at around 9am on Friday.

An official from the hotel chain confirmed that the family had already checked out of the hotel after the tragedy occurred, and were provided with an alternative option in Dubai.

The hotel also helped the family in contacting their embassy and are expected to fly back to Kazakhstan once the boy's body is released from the Forensic Laboratory at Sharjah Police.

"The boy was killed as a result of a fractured skull and internal bleeding, in addition to sustaining severe fractures to various parts of his body. The hotel management notified Sharjah Police about the fall, but the boy had died on the spot," said a police official.

Under investigation

The case continues to be under investigation as police are yet to determine the circumstances surrounding the boy's death.

An official statement from the hotel stated: "Our deepest sympathy and condolences go to the boy's parents and family."
