Abu Dhabi: Authorities have started repatriating the bodies of the workers who were killed in last week’s horrific bus-truck collision in Al Ain, the officials at various embassies told Gulf News on Saturday.

The body of an Egyptian worker was repatriated to his home country on Friday, a spokesman of Egyptian Embassy in Abu Dhabi said. Meanwhile seven of the 19 bodies of Bangladeshi workers will be repatriated on Sunday morning, said Latif Ul Kazmi, Labour Counsellor at the Bangladeshi Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
Bangladesh’s Biman Airlines will repatriate the bodies, starting early on Sunday, he said. “The seven bodies will be flown today at 2.30am from Abu Dhabi to Chittagong and 11 bodies will be flown on Tuesday to Dhaka at 2.30am,” Kazmi said.
The bodies of other victims will be repatriated to Sylhet at 11.30pm on Tuesday, Kazmi said.
He said three injured Bangladeshi workers are still in the Intensive Care Unit at an Al Ain Hospital.
The body of Ajbool Shaikh Hannan, the only Indian worker, will be repatriated on Sunday or Monday, a company spokesman said.
A Pakistani worker Tanwir Ahmad, who sustained severe head injuries is still in the ICU, said Farooq Langove, Labour and Welfare Attaché at the Pakistani Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
The other four--including the bus driver who received minor injuries--are recuperating and can be discharged from the hospital within two days, he said.
