Abu Dhabi: A 4x4 mounted the pavement and ploughed into a pedestrian, sending her flying through the window of a shop in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

The driver of the black Pajero first reversed into a car before accelerating forwards sharply behind the main Adnoc building on Salam Street.

The 33-year-old Indian woman was thrown into a fire and safety equipment shop.

The Indian man at the wheel of the vehicle had just finished having dinner at Chappan Bhog restaurant, and was reversing out of the car park.

“My car lost control and it just ran into her. I could see her walking on the footpath, and I wanted to stop. But before I knew, it hit her,” the panicked driver told this reporter, who was present at the scene.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver first hit a car behind him while reversing. “I think the man got panicked, and he accelerated to the front and ran over the kerb,” one passer-by said.

The man’s wife and two children were screaming for help asking people to call an ambulance for the victim.

“I am so worried for her. I hope she is fine. Oh God! I don’t want anything to happen to her,” the wife told XPRESS while waiting for the ambulance.

The police arrived at the accident site immediately. The ambulance arrived shortly after, and the woman was given first aid before she was taken to hospital in Shaikh Khalifa Medical City.

She had sustained injuries to her lower body, but was not in a critical condition, police told XPRESS.
