Abu Dhabi: Two beaches in the capital that were closed for the last three days due to a sewage leak have been reopened to the public, according to the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City

The beaches at Al Bateen and the Corniche, which have been cleaned and tested for water pollution, have now been reopened, the statement added.

“All the tests have proven that the seawater is free from pollutants, and poses no risk to the health of beachgoers,” said Abdul Aziz Zurub, director of health, safety and environment at the municipality.

The sewage leak had occurred as a result of a burst pipe, but Zurub did not specify the exact location of the incident. He added that the municipality was however pursuing legal action against the contractors who installed the piping.

“We will also conduct further training sessions for such contractors, and ensure that such projects are monitored more closely in the future,” he told Gulf News on the sidelines of a municipal conference that ended in the capital on Wednesday.
