Company denies turning down leave request of man who committed suicide
The victim, 38-year-old Athiraman Kannan, from the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, had been working with Arabtec Construction LLC for the past 11 years
Dubai: The construction company which employed the man who committed suicide by jumping off the 148th floor of the Burj Khalifa on Tuesday, denied turning down his leave request.
The victim, 38-year-old Athiraman Kannan, from the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, had been working with Arabtec Construction LLC for the past 11 years.
A statement issued by Arabtec yesterday said: "It has been reported in the media that Kannan took his life because his request for leave was not granted; the company would like to state categorically that this information is incorrect."
Kannan will be missed by his colleagues, the statement read.
The man had slight problems at work but he was depressed as a result of his brother's death, police told Gulf News earlier.
According to the police, the man jumped to his death through an opening in a part of the tower that is still under construction.
It is believed that Kannan did not have any relatives in the UAE. The Indian Consulate said that they help to send the remains to his family.
