Dubai: Discovery Gardens residents have raised safety concerns over the locking of emergency exit doors in several buildings.

In a random check XPRESS found several emergency doors locked in buildings 42, 46, 77, 78 and 79.

Residents however, expressed mixed views on Nakheel’s insistance on locking the rear exit doors of DG buildings. “While I am happy that this secures my place, I am concerned that when there is a real emergency or fire, people may be stuck inside,” said an apartment owner from building 78.

Another resident from building 42 said he was informed by security personnel that in case of an emergency or fire, the doors will open automatically.

No access card system

However, not all DG buildings’ emergency doors are locked.

Raheel R. from one building said his front and back doors are never locked, since there is no access card system installed.

“For long I have been asking Nakheel to secure our place as we don’t even have dedicated security personnel. Even worse, we are regularly hounded by unwarranted people coming inside and dropping off sleazy brochures and flyers. It is really risky and I hope Nakheel will soon do something about this,” he said.
