Sprinklers work while planet pays

Wastage of water in residential areas during the winter season is disappointing

Last updated:

An occurrence that Gulf News reader Fabien Morvan witnessed last year, was repeated during the recent rains – but this time, he was ready and waiting.

He said: “In 2008, I didn’t have my camera with me… I couldn’t capture the wastage of water. But sadly, the sprinklers were on this year, too.”

Morvan took the photograph in Discovery Gardens, in Dubai. The community reporter said he was disappointed to see that such activities are taking place, despite ongoing concern about global warming and fading resources.

He said: “It appears the United Nations Climate Change Conference hasn’t made a difference.” Morvan added that his first instinct was to send the photograph to Gulf News, as the newspaper “has always been concerned about the environment.” He said he hoped the authorities would pay heed to such unnecessary wastage.
