The misuse of recycling bins around Deira is a common practice, according to Gulf News reader Fatima Suhail. She said: "[Recycling] bins allocated specifically for paper are used to dump bottles and cans." Image Credit: Fatima Suhail/Gulf News Reader

I am amazed and shocked at the careless attitude of people and find it extremely annoying when I come across instances wherein recycling bins allocated specifically for paper are used to dump bottles and cans.

Is it so difficult for people to understand the logic behind the categories printed on each of these bins?

Moreover, another issue that raises concern is that most of these recycling bins are located only near bus stations, which are quite far from residential areas of Deira.

Due to their location, I believe these bins are not being used to their full potential and actually result in less recycling.

Additionally, as a woman I find it quite strange and difficult to dispose waste in an environmentally-friendly manner when trying to navigate through crowded bus stops.

I request the authorities install these recycling bins close to residential buildings in Deira. I also urge people to take the time to dispose of their waste in a more systematic manner.

By doing so even the work of municipality staff would be reduced, as people would dispose items accordingly and the workers would not have to waste their energy and effort in sorting out waste, paper, cartons and cans.

I hope that the concerned authorities look into this matter as quickly as possible and provide the residents of Deira a fair chance to take up the initiative and responsibility to become environmentally friendly!
