Broken manhole covers and open drains are cause for concern around Abu Dhabi, according to Gulf News reader P. C. Omar. The community reporter highlighted the issue for the municipal authorities, and urged them to tackle the problem that is prevalent in the Tourist Club area. He said: “I have seen this happening in many other places around Abu Dhabi, too. It has many dangerous [consequences] — people are at risk of serious injury. Children can fall in and pedestrians are in harm’s way.” He requested the authorities to “repair the manhole covers at the earliest, and replace those that are broken it is time to change them”.
