I would like to draw everyone's attention to the sad plight of our neighbourhood.

I live in Al Nahda, Sharjah.

This area is mostly inhabited by multi-cultural, middle-income people. The point that I want to highlight is the lack of cleanliness in the area.

There are a number of empty plots where garbage gathers and [it] has not been picked up in months. Whenever it rains, the water gathers in the form of ponds in such plots.

With the accumulating waste material, this water acts as fuel to fire, aggravates the filthiness and gives rise to foul smells. Such conditions are also highly favourable for the growth and production of mosquitoes and other insects and germs.

These ponds are not only spreading germs and diseases in the area, they are a big danger to the health of various children who play in and around these empty plots.

Moreover, there are hardly any efforts to beautify the area. From a distance, it looks like a massive bundle of building materials.

Only one park

There is only one park to cater to the wide populace, only two large mosques, just one bank and hardly any schools in the area.

I would really appreciate if the concerned authorities pay a little bit of attention to this area as it is also an integral part of the city.
