Manama: The Philippine embassy in Manama has urged all Filipinos in Bahrain to vote for the Puerto Princesa Underground River as one of the world's new seven wonders of nature.

"The president has reiterated his call for the 80 million cellular phone users to text and vote for the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) and help push the country's bid for a spot in the search for the New Seven Wonders of Nature title," Ambassador Corazon Yap-Bahjin wrote in an open letter to the Filipino community in Bahrain.

In Manila, President Benigno Aquino III this week said all Filipinos should contribute to the campaign.

"I need your help. I need text votes so that the Palawan Underground River will be proclaimed one of the seven wonders of nature," he said in a speech.

The ambassador urged all Filipinos to vote by sending a text message or by voting online at www.new7wonders.com.

Puerto Princesa Underground River, one of the finalists in the worldwide search along with 27 others sites, is located in Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

According to the Philippine Information Agency, it is reputed to be the longest navigable underground river in the world at a length of 8.2 kilometres and winds through spectacular limestone formations before emptying out into the South China Sea.
